Oh, how I love marmalade. Not the onion or tomato kind, just the real thing, pure orangery,
both sweet and tangy at the same time. This brings back memories of my childhood growing up in the UK. Every morning I had marmalade on hot buttery toast, or fresh hovis bread. It was pure perfection. That is why years later, happily living in the warm sunshine of California , I decided to make marmalade What can be better than the taste of home-made marmalade which is natural and made with locally grown oranges And so My story begins:
Oh, how I love marmalade. Not the onion or tomato kind, just the real thing, pure orangery,Throughout my adult working life I have always been associated with food, whether it was running sandwich bars, cooking in a vegetarian restaurant (in the 70’s) or catering. When I finally moved to California for a long awaited vacation, I scoured the grocery stores for English style marmalade, I could not find anything that matched my choosey tastes. The only thing for it was to make my own marmalade. Everywhere I went, trees were laden with oranges and lemons. What a find. Nobody bothers to pick their oranges in Los Angeles? Not daring to invade other people’s properties, I purchased some organic oranges at the Farmer’s Market. Back in the UK we always had plum trees in the back of the garden and the days of August and September were filled with both my mother and myself making plum jam. We had tons of jam most of which we gave to the neighbors and to local needy institutions.
both sweet and tangy at the same time.
I researched recipes and recipes and with background knowledge on jam making I went ahead and began making marmalade. I became very passionate about the product it’s taste was just how I remembered.
